These are expensive to manage. Profit orientated companies have no incentive to cure these illnesses. It is a money making machine to manage them. I didn't understand the Kennedy connection, though, except that we should or could have been spending all that money getting someone to the moon on cures for these illnesses that as you point out are very costly. Eileen jimw replied: What a fast reply! The JFK quote? - Set an incredible goal and accomplished it. To bad the effort was driven by the desire to Politically slap the Soviet Union. Why not set a goal that benifits humanity? What I did with the "form letter" was print out seven copies. found seven addresses: US President, State Governor and Federal/State Senators/Representatives using the link on the page "Contact Elected Officials USA.gov" I wrote one address on each copy under "To: the date under "Date:" my address under "From:" and my signature, printed name and email address under "Signed:" Thank you for helping me debug this page - Jim |

As the former Executive Director of MARAL Pro-Choice Michigan, I have worked to expand stem cell research for several years and wholeheartedly support these efforts to increase scientific studies that could end the suffering of many citizens with debilitating and potentially life-threatening diseases. I am pleased to let you know that while the Michigan Legislature was not able to pass legislation to ease the restrictions on embryonic stem cell research, voters approved a constitutional amendment of a very similar nature in November of 2008. Due in large part to the passage of this amendment and Michigan's leadership in this regard, Governor Granholm recently announced that Detroit will host the 2010 World Stem Cell Summit organized by the Genetics Policy Institute. For more information about this important event, please visit http://www.michigan.gov/gov/0,1607,7-168--224274--,00.html. Unfortunately, at the same time opponents have introduced a number of proposals to curtail the scope of the amendment and chip away at our progress. Please know that as we move forward, I will stand in opposition to these attempts to undermine the will of the people, and urge my colleagues to consider the potentially devastating consequences of such legislation. Once again, thank you for contacting me and for your advocacy on this issue. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 517-373-2577 or rebekahwarren@house.mi.gov. Sincerely, Rebekah Warren State Representative 53rd District jimw replied: Dear Rep. Rebekah Warren, Thank you for your feedback. I am heartened by your efforts. Jim Waurzyniak |
